  • Aso Shrine

    About 17 minutes by car
    Higo Kunichi Ichinomiya, the main mountain of Aso Shrine the whole country
    It is a rare sidewalk road in the whole country, and you can see Mt Aso, which is a sacred body, at the end of the torii.
    Twelve gods are enshrined on the main festival of Tatsumi no Tsutomu no Chito.
    It was founded in 282 B.C., and the present shrine was rebuilt between 1835 and 1850.
    Six buildings, such as temples and tower gates, are designated as national important cultural properties.
    Above all, Loumon is said to be one of the largest in Kyushu, and one of "Japan's Three Great Towers".
    Due to the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake, the gate and the shrine were destroyed and are still under construction.

    Aso specialty aka ushi (red beef) bowl" can enjoy
    The rare steak is served with soft-boiled egg and “aka ushi (red beef) meat miso”, and the sauce is the one from the Kuramoto Yamauchi Honten, which lasts for three hundred years.
    You can also taste regional dishes such as dumpling and Takana-meshi.

    17 minutes by car
    An information station located in the center of Monzen Town shopping district.

  • Kokuzo Shrine

    About 19 minutes by car
    Kitanomiya of Aso Shrine.
    It is one of the oldest historical shrines in Kumamoto, which is already listed in the book as Higo Country Fourza in the Heian Period 907.
    "Tenonosugi of Teno", which has a tradition of hand-planting with quick bottled jade, which is the main festival deity, is 1000 to 2000 years old,
    It was a huge cedar of about 47 meters, around 14.40 meters around the base, and a stem circumference of about 11 meters along the eyes.

  • Koga Waterfall

    About 20 minutes by car + walk
    It is a couple waterfall that flows through the cliffs of the Owayama mountain, and is famous for its ability to produce ice in midwinter.
    A male waterfall with a height of about 80 meters, and a whole female waterfall with a height of about 100 meters are huge ice pillars and ice gutters.
    You can see it even more closely if you climb on the promenade and observatory connected directly below the waterfall.
    We walk about 600 meters from the parking lot to the waterfall, so we recommend wearable clothes and shoes.
